Entry from: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Entry Title: “Amazing growth in Dubai” Entry: “A relatively new tourist destination, Dubai has gained in popularity in recent years. It is essentially a desert city with superb infrastructure, liberal policies (by regional standards), and excellent tourist amenities. Just 5 hrs from Europe and 3 hrs from most parts of the Middle East, the Near East, and the sub-continent of India, Dubai makes a great short break for shopping, partying, sunbathing, fine dining, sporting events, and even a few sinful pleasures. It is a city of superlatives: for the fastest, biggest, tallest, largest and highest, Dubai is the destination. The city of Dubai is situated on a coastal strip bordered by desert and gets very hot dry on the hottest days and humid during the cooler days in the summer. I was lucky to be there in August where the temperature exceeded…oh let’s say 120 degrees with humidity! To sum up Dubai in a few words…shopping, restaurants, beaches, hotels, and everything amaginable! You can ski in the desert on freshly made snow at Ski Dubai (see my photos) and then take camel rides out into the desert for a sunset dinner with Bedouins (desert-dwelling Arab nomads). Extremely safe, “Western friendly,” and worthy of annual visits since the city is growing to fast, year

Dinner together on a private boat cruise along Dubai Creek. how Dubai looked in 1990′s same street today. Live Report Well, it’s as grand as everything you’ve read about it. When you can start something… anything… from scratch, it’s always better than trying to upgrade something. Think of cell phones coming into 3rd world countries before we had them. Think of modern hospitals being built for first time with all current technology and most convenient patient lay-out. Now fast forward to building an entire city in 15 years with the vision of making it the newest and the best. EVERYTHING is forward-thinking. Obviously, the quest was to make this a city of the “future.” So…. does it have an indoor ski slope with ski tows, etc??? In the middle of the desert? Of course. Does each building compete with others for the most unique design? Of course. Today we visited the only 7 star hotel in the world. Since there is no such thing, they’ve claimed that for themselves, but it deserves it. The building itself is built in the shape of a sail on a boat. The lobby ceiling goes up forever high, looking inside like the canvas

Entry from: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Entry Title: “The land of a thousand ATMs” Entry: “Arrived in Dubai from snowy Scotland at 1am local time. The flight was uneventful – we each had our own entertainment system and a row of three seats between the two of us. Rachel does not recommend Jolie’s latest – SALT… The following morning/afternoon (we haven’t changed our morning habits Mary) we headed to the Dubai Museum which was set within an ancient fort on Dubai Creek and told the history of the Emerit. Rachel was annoyed that the first girl school was only opened in 1959, James learned about Camels – the boats of the desert. After a succesful Abra (water taxi) ride, we attempted to explore the older part of the city. However, we were soon lost and hungry so jumped on another Abra back. The souks had nothing on Marrakech anyway… We had brunch at 4 (if that is possible) – (brinner…brea…bruncher?) – on the banks of the creek which was pretty good. The hotel was as fancy as it will get for us over the next 9 months – despite being one of the cheapest we could find in Dubai – and we decided to take advantage of the steamroom and roof top jacuzzi before heading out for the evening. Wafi mall hosts a free ‘cinema under the stars’ every Sunday night so given our budget we decided to put aside
