I’d heard a lot of things about Dubai, some good some bad, and most of them are probably true. First the good bits — everything is new, shiny, and works properly! The airport is spotless, there was a fleet of taxis waiting outside, everything seems well organised, people are friendly and helpful, and what with everything being so huge, there’s loads of space. For example, the road to the airport might have felt quite busy if it had just been a normal motorway, but with 7 lanes in each direction it seemed almost empty. Likewise, the malls are so huge that even though there may be a few thousand people inside, each shop was pretty quiet. That does beg the question of whether Dubai really needs so many malls, particularly in the middle of a recession, but as a visitor it was quite nice! Now the bad — well, it’s just a bit weird. Everything is new, and there’s still so much construction going on that half the city feels like a building site. Even the ‘old city’ is a new, reconstructed version of what the old citadel would have looked like. The residential areas are immaculate, but with no-one around they feel almost

a new years welcoming for 2011 extravaganza fireworks show at Burj Khalifa (Burj Dubai) 2011. we had to go near the building but unfortunately around 10-11 PM the metro station was already closed, so we just walked through into the dubai creek to witness the fireworks show! hope you enjoy watching it!
